Euro Zone Inflation Hits 2.5%, Surpassing ECB Target
The European Central Bank is facing pressure to raise interest rates as inflation in the Euro zone has surpassed its 2% target. In March, inflation jumped to 2.5%, up from 1.9% the previous month. The main driver of this increase was the surge in energy prices, which rose by 4.9% compared to a decline of 3.1% in February.
The conflict in West Asia has disrupted natural gas supplies and tanker traffic through key waterways, exacerbating global fuel market concerns. Russia has cut off most of its gas supplies to Europe, while Iran's disruptions have further tightened markets. The European Central Bank is considering whether to raise interest rates to prevent this surge from becoming entrenched.
