European companies have exceeded expectations in their second-quarter earnings reports, showing sharper-than-anticipated profit growth. According to LSEG I/B/E/S data, companies in Europe's benchmark STOXX 600 index are now expected to report earnings growth of over 22% for the second quarter.

This marks the sharpest growth since the second quarter of 2022, with even excluding the energy sector profit growth standing at a robust 11.5%. Deutsche Bank notes that sales growth has reached its fastest pace since 2022, despite comparably low inflation, and that corporate guidance has been strong.

Barclays agrees that management teams are optimistic about the outlook, raising capital expenditure and confident about margin strength. While concerns around the economy remain, demand is seen as healthy by most companies, according to Barclays' analysis of STOXX 600 transcripts.
