European Central Bank (ECB) Governing Council member Martin Kocher said the European economy is gaining momentum, contrary to what many people think. In an interview with Bloomberg Television at the Federal Reserve's annual economic symposium in Jackson Hole, Kocher stated that Europe's economy 'is more resilient than many people think it is, showing some momentum now, more momentum.'

Kocher noted that there is no complacency regarding inflation, which analysts believe reached 3.3% in August. The ECB is considering whether to tighten monetary policy further after a quarter-point hike in the deposit rate in June.

The economy has weathered the impact of the conflict in the Middle East, growing by 0.4% in the second quarter. Policymakers are watching closely for potential second-round effects like rising wages, which could turn inflation into a more persistent problem.
