European Economy Reels Under Record Heat and Extreme Weather
Europe's economy is feeling the heat as record temperatures and extreme weather events disrupt major sectors. Temperatures reached record levels in June and July, causing low water levels on key commercial rivers like the Rhine and Danube.
The disruptions are impacting industries such as power generation, agriculture, and transportation. Nuclear reactors have reduced or halted production due to warm river waters and low water levels.
According to Allianz economist Hazem Krichene, the total bill for this year will be much larger than estimated. The economic damage is expected to increase as extreme weather events become more frequent.
