European Gas Prices Fuel Italian Bond Yield Spike
The 10-year Italian government bond yield has risen from under 4% in July to 4.25% as of September 2, 2026.
This increase tracks closely with the rise in European natural gas prices, which has been fueled by high energy costs leading to inflation and higher interest rate expectations across Europe.
ECB officials have publicly affirmed a rate hike, which is now priced at a virtual certainty, with another expected by December. However, this move may not alleviate the issue of stalled or regulated away European energy supply.
