European Markets Plummet Amid Middle East Tensions and Soaring Oil Prices
European markets took a hit on Wednesday as tensions in the Middle East fueled inflation fears and sent oil prices soaring.
The pan-European STOXX 600 index dropped 0.7%, with Germany's DAX and France's CAC 40 also registering losses.
The volatility was exacerbated by investors' caution ahead of US inflation data, which added to the market uncertainty.
However, Helsinki's blue-chip stocks bucked the trend, posting a 1.6% gain led by Fortum, a Finnish energy company, which rose 9.6% after securing a significant power purchase agreement with Google.
The agreement included Google's commitment to invest over €13 billion in AI infrastructure in Finland, further boosting market confidence in Helsinki.
The Middle East tensions escalated after Iranian-backed Houthi forces attacked Saudi cities, threatening oil supply disruptions and driving Brent crude prices past $100 per barrel.
