European Stocks Stagnate Amid Macro Concerns

Instruments
EUR USD
Share

European stocks closed flat on Monday, bucking losses from the previous week. The adverse macroeconomic backdrop for major European sectors weighed on investor sentiment.

The Euro STOXX 50 fell by 0.1% to 6,455, while the STOXX Europe 600 closed at 654, registering a small loss. Sovereign yields on longer maturity securities remained near multi-decade highs across major economies in the Eurozone.

This trend is reflective of concerns over higher deficit spending by Washington and potential complacency from the Federal Reserve regarding high inflation rates.

Ahead of Nvidia's earnings announcement, AI infrastructure stocks took a hit. Infineon and Siemens Energy dropped 3%, while ASML lost 1%. In contrast, banks largely managed to trim losses from earlier in the week.
