European Tourism Plunges into Crisis as Inflation Hits Home
The tourism industry in Maspalomas is facing significant challenges due to inflationary pressures. A recent barometer of tourism from its source markets reveals a scenario of financial vulnerability, with 51% of French travelers classified as low-budget.
This trend is not unique to France; the same pattern is observed across several European countries, including Italy, Spain, and the UK. In fact, France tops the list with the highest percentage of low-budget travelers, followed closely by Italy at 50%.
The reliance on package holidays has eroded the direct economic impact on host regions, with 21% of Italian tourists opting for all-inclusive packages. This shift towards closed tour operators neutralizes the diversification of spending at the destination.
