At the recent Jackson Hole Symposium, Martin Kocher, Governor of the Austrian National Bank and an ECB member, stated that Europe's economy has shown more momentum than expected. He emphasized that while there are threats to price stability, the current situation indicates a resilient economic performance.

Kocher highlighted the importance of understanding how long-lived inflation proves to be, as it could impact price stability in the region. He also stressed that despite the challenges, there is no complacency among policymakers and they remain vigilant regarding potential risks.

The ECB's primary mandate remains to maintain price stability, which means keeping inflation around 2%. The European Central Bank has various tools at its disposal, including raising or lowering interest rates, to achieve this goal. In extreme situations, the bank can also employ quantitative easing (QE) to inject liquidity into the economy.
