Eurozone Base Money Decline Weighs on EUR/EGP Rate
The Eurozone's base money decreased by €15 billion to €3,958.7 billion in the week ending August 21, 2026, according to recent data from the European Central Bank (ECB). This decline is a sign of adjustments in liquidity management.
As a result, the euro (EUR) against the Egyptian pound (EGP) exchange rate has been trading at EGP58.467, near its daily low and below major moving averages. The technical setup remains bearish for the short and medium term, with price expected to range between EGP58.1747 and EGP58.7909 in the next 2-3 days.
The increase in the Eurosystem's net foreign currency position by €0.9 billion to €349.3 billion during the same period also indicates a shift in currency holdings. This development can influence interbank funding conditions and euro conversion flows, providing a backdrop for recent two-way trading activity in the EUR/EGP pair.
