Eurozone Beats Expectations with Fastest Growth in Over a Year
The eurozone's economy has shown surprising resilience in the second quarter of 2026, growing at its fastest pace in over a year despite economic pressures related to Iran.
According to Eurostat, GDP increased by 0.4% quarter-on-quarter, exceeding the 0.2% growth forecast in a Bloomberg survey and marking the bloc's strongest quarterly performance in more than 12 months.
The strong economic indicators are surprising given the sharp increases in oil prices that have fueled inflation, squeezed household budgets, and weighed on investment due to tensions in the Middle East.
Despite these challenges, business confidence recovered in both Germany and France during July, and several eurozone economies reported stronger quarterly growth, including Spain which posted 0.7% quarterly growth, exceeding analysts' expectations.
