Eurozone Business Activity Surpasses Forecasts Amid Mixed Sector Performance
The Eurozone's private sector expanded more than expected in August, according to the latest Purchasing Managers' Index (PMI) data. The HCOB Composite PMI rose to 52.1, surpassing the preliminary estimate of 51.7 and signaling continued growth across the bloc.
While the composite index increased, the details reveal a mixed picture. The services sector continued to drive growth, while manufacturing remained in contraction territory, though at a slightly softer pace than in previous months.
The stronger-than-expected PMI reading may influence the European Central Bank's (ECB) monetary policy stance. With inflation still above target, the data could reinforce the case for a cautious approach to interest rate cuts.
