The eurozone's current account surplus widened to €35.1 billion in June, up from €25.8 billion in May, according to the European Central Bank (ECB). This significant increase was driven primarily by growth in primary income, which includes dividends, wages, and direct investment earnings.

The seasonally adjusted current account surplus of €35.1 billion is equivalent to approximately $40.7 billion at an exchange rate of €1 = $0.8622. The non-seasonally adjusted figure came in at €46.9 billion, swinging back into positive territory from the €6.1 billion deficit recorded in May.

The eurozone's current account comprises the trade balance in goods and services, primary income, which includes investment earnings such as dividends and interest, as well as worker remittances, and secondary income. The widening of the primary income surplus lifted the overall current account balance.
