Eurozone Economy Rebounds Strongly in July, Energy Pressures Linger
The Eurozone economy showed a stronger-than-expected rebound in July, with the Composite Purchasing Managers' Index (PMI) rising to 51.9 and breaking above the threshold separating growth from contraction.
This marked the first time since March that the index stood above the boom-or-bust line, indicating overall economic activity had recovered to levels seen before the Middle East conflict erupted.
The strong rebound was driven by a recovery in German manufacturing, which saw its PMI surge to 52.2, a four-month high, and an improvement in French services, with the Services PMI rising to 49.8, its strongest performance since December last year.
However, energy price pressures stemming from escalating US-Iran geopolitical tensions cast a shadow over this recovery, with cost pressures easing but still posing risks for inflation and economic growth.
