Eurozone Economy Shows Signs of Improvement Amid Strong Manufacturing Activity
The European economy showed signs of improvement in August, according to the PMI data released by XTB.com. The eurozone flash composite PMI rose to 52.1, beating the forecasted 51.7 and indicating a stronger pace of overall economic activity.
In France, the manufacturing business climate index reached 103 points, exceeding expectations of 101 and the previous reading of 101. Meanwhile, France's flash manufacturing PMI increased to 51.5 from 49.8, surpassing the consensus of 50.0.
However, not all indicators were positive. France's services PMI fell to 48.4, below expectations of 49.4 and the previous reading of 49.6. Germany's flash services PMI also declined to 48.5, remaining in contraction territory. On a more encouraging note, Germany's manufacturing PMI rose to 54.1 from 52.2, exceeding the consensus of 52.1.
The eurozone inflation expectations data showed a slight improvement, with one-year expectations falling to 2.9% and three-year expectations easing to 2.7%. This suggests that households are not becoming increasingly worried about a renewed inflation spiral.
