Eurozone Economy Shows Two-Month Uptick in Sentiment Despite Global Turmoil
The eurozone economy showed significant improvement in August, despite ongoing concerns about climate change and the war in the Middle East. According to recent data, both businesses and consumers were more optimistic about current and future economic conditions.
This marks a two-month uptick in sentiment, with the overall economic sentiment indicator reaching its highest reading since January. Industry was more upbeat about expectations, although production did disappoint compared to July.
The service sector saw an increase in optimism about recent activity and future demand, providing some relief after months of weakness. However, selling price expectations ticked down for industry, but increased a little for services.
Despite the positive sentiment, the eurozone economy is still expected to face negative impacts from summer droughts and higher oil prices in the third quarter. The European Central Bank (ECB) is also expected to raise interest rates in September, despite soft core inflationary pressures.
