Eurozone Economy Stalls Amid Energy Price Surge

ABN AMRO economists are predicting that the eurozone economy will continue to expand despite renewed energy shocks, thanks in part to Germany's fiscal spending. The bank has revised its growth forecast for 2026 up to 0.8%, and maintained a 1.2% prediction for 2027, following stronger Q2 activity and upward revisions in Germany.

However, inflation is expected to be the main constraint on the outlook, with headline inflation rising from 2.8% in June to 3.3% in August, a three-year high driven largely by energy prices. ABN AMRO expects inflation to peak above 3.5% in coming months and average 3.0% in 2026, which is 0.5 percentage points above its previous forecast.

The bank warns that the risk of extended monetary tightening from the European Central Bank (ECB) is rising sharply, with energy prices driving headline inflation toward a projected peak above 3.5%. Traders are advised to prepare for upward pressure on Eurozone yields and position themselves accordingly.
