Eurozone Inflation Hits Three-Year High Amid Ongoing War Costs
The Eurozone's inflation rate has surged to a three-year high of 3.3% in August, exceeding the European Central Bank's (ECB) target of 2%. The sharp increase is largely due to the ongoing war in the Middle East, which continues to drive up energy costs.
According to data from the EU's statistical office, Eurostat, energy prices rose by 14.3% in August, following a 10.3% jump in July. This has put additional upward pressure on inflation, with analysts predicting that it will remain above target into next year.
The European Central Bank is expected to raise interest rates again at its meeting on September 10 in an effort to tame the surge in prices. However, some experts are warning that the path ahead remains uncertain due to volatile inflation.
