Eurozone Inflation Hits Three-Year High at 3.3%

The Eurozone experienced its highest inflation rate in three years at 3.3% in August, according to official data from the EU's statistical office, Eurostat.

This increase is well above the European Central Bank's (ECB) target of 2%, and a significant jump from July's rate of 2.9%. Energy costs are primarily driving this surge, with prices rising 14.3% in August after increasing by 10.3% in July.

The ongoing conflict in the Middle East is contributing to the increase in energy costs, particularly due to disruptions in global oil trade routes. As a result, the ECB is expected to resume raising interest rates at its meeting on September 10 to combat rising prices.
