Eurozone Inflation Soars to 3.3%, France Keeps Pace Below Average
The eurozone saw its inflation rate jump to 3.3% in August, driven mainly by higher energy prices. However, France managed to keep its inflation rate relatively low at 2.7%, which is below the eurozone average.
This means that on average, the prices of goods and services covered by the eurozone's consumer price index were 3.3% higher in August than in August last year. Energy prices were the main driver behind this increase, rising by 14.3% compared to a year ago.
France's lower inflation rate puts it below other major European countries such as Germany, Italy, Spain, Belgium, and Luxembourg. The country has seen fluctuations in its inflation rate throughout the year, ranging from 2.0% in March to 2.7% in August.
