Eurozone Inflation Surges to 3.3%, ECB Rate Hikes Loom
The Eurozone's annual inflation rate has jumped to 3.3% in August, up from 2.9% in July, according to the European Central Bank's (ECB) flash estimate.
This surge in inflation is largely driven by energy prices, which have risen by 10.3% year-over-year in July and now make up a significant portion of the overall increase in prices.
The ECB has already begun to raise interest rates in response to this inflationary pressure, with some economists predicting that another rate hike could occur as soon as September.
The impact of these rising energy costs is not limited to the Eurozone, however. Countries such as Kenya and Nigeria are also feeling the effects, with their own inflation rates increasing due to higher import bills.
