The annual inflation rate in the euro area accelerated to 3.3% in August 2026, up from 2.9% in July, according to a preliminary estimate by Eurostat.
The main driver of this increase was energy costs, which rose by 14.3% year-over-year in August, surpassing the 10.3% growth seen in July.
Lithuania experienced the highest inflation rate at 5.8%, while Estonia's rate remained the lowest at 1.3%. Among major economies, France and Germany saw rates of 2.7% and 2.9%, respectively, both below the bloc's headline figure.
