Eurozone Investor Sentiment Plummets Unexpectedly
The ZEW Indicator of Economic Sentiment for the Euro Area unexpectedly weakened in September. The indicator eased to 25.8, falling short of analysts' expectations of a further improvement to 39.9.
This decline comes after the index reached a six-month high of 31.4 in August. The surveyed analysts were divided in their outlook, with 54.8% expecting no change in economic activity and 35.5% anticipating an improvement.
However, a smaller percentage, 9.7%, expected deterioration. Meanwhile, the assessment of the current situation improved, with the index rising 7.6 points to -13.9, while inflation expectations climbed 28.7 points to 31.1.
