Eurozone PPI Falls Amid Lower Energy Costs
The Eurozone's producer price index (PPI) fell by 0.3% month-over-month in June, meeting expectations and reversing May's 0.2% increase. The decline was largely driven by a 1.5% drop in energy prices, reflecting lower oil costs during the period.
Despite this decrease, underlying pipeline inflation remained intact, with producer prices excluding energy rising 0.2%. Intermediate goods, capital goods, and durable consumer goods all recorded monthly increases, indicating continued cost pressures across much of the industrial economy.
The data aligns with this week's PMI surveys, which showed easing but not disappearing cost pressures across the Eurozone. Policymakers are likely to view the report as evidence of gradual disinflation rather than a decisive turning point, given recent volatility in oil markets.
