Eurozone Services PMI Surpasses Expectations, Signaling Sustained Growth
The Eurozone's services sector showed unexpected resilience in July, beating expectations and signaling sustained growth. According to the HCOB Services Purchasing Managers' Index (PMI), which rose to 51.6 in July, surpassing market expectations of 51.5, the bloc's dominant services sector remains in positive territory for the fifth consecutive month.
The PMI reading, compiled by S&P Global, indicates a modest expansion in the euro area's services sector, driven by resilient consumer demand for services such as tourism, hospitality, and financial services.
New business inflows increased modestly, and employment levels continued to rise, albeit at a slower rate than in previous months. However, the pace of expansion remains below the series' long-term average, reflecting the broader economic headwinds facing the region, including elevated inflation and tighter monetary policy.
