EURUSD: Fed Cautious on Further Rate Hikes as Eurozone Inflation Data Looms
The recent Federal Reserve meeting has had a significant impact on market expectations for further rate hikes. Despite leaving interest rates unchanged, the central bank's communication emphasized caution and restraint in its fight against inflation.
Kevin Warsh stressed that the Fed needs to remain vigilant and not declare victory over inflation too quickly. This approach has led to a reduction in market pricing for additional rate increases, which previously stood at two more hikes this year.
The US economy's resilience is still intact, with strong labour market conditions allowing the Fed to maintain elevated interest rates for an extended period. However, slower GDP growth and gradually easing inflation have reduced the scope for further monetary tightening.
The eurozone's CPI inflation data release today will be crucial in determining the future trajectory of European Central Bank policy decisions. A stronger decline in inflation would increase expectations that the ECB has room to lower interest rates, potentially shifting the advantage back in favour of the dollar.
