The Canadian Native Fastball Championship has returned to Prince George after a four-year absence, and it's expected to bring in around $5 million in economic impact through hotel stays, restaurant visits, retail spending, and other tourism-related activities. Tourism Prince George estimates that this influx of visitors will fill hotels, increase restaurant traffic, and bring customers to businesses throughout the city.

The event is being held at Spruce City Stadium, which has been preparing for months with the help of volunteers and organizers. According to Tourism Prince George CEO Scott McWalter, 'We're looking at roughly $5 million in economic benefits just to the Prince George visitor economy.' This includes accommodations, local restaurants, shops, and other tourism-related activities.

The championship is also expected to showcase Prince George as a premier sports tourism destination. Carrie Jane Gray Park has become one of the city's premier softball destinations, featuring five additional ball diamonds that allow organizers to host multiple divisions simultaneously. The event is seen as an opportunity for local fans to support their hometown team and cheer on some of the country's best Indigenous fastball teams.

Desjarlais, a representative from the championship, believes that tournaments like this provide young people with positive role models and an opportunity to see elite-level competition up close. He says, 'Everybody nowadays understands the price of everything,' but adds that they don't fully understand the value of events like this.
