Fed Credibility in Question as Inflation Remains Above Target
Economists are questioning Federal Reserve Chairman Kevin Warsh's monetary policy as the US faces economic challenges, including a record national debt and high inflation.
A recent survey conducted by the University of Chicago's Booth School of Business and Britain's Financial Times found that about 60% of respondents believed the Fed needs more time to bring inflation down to its 2% target than when Warsh took office.
The US annual inflation rate stands at around 3.4%, well above the Fed's target, and has been above it for over five years.
Some economists, such as Christiane Baumeister from the University of Notre Dame, are critical of Warsh's reluctance to provide a clear assessment of the economy, which they say can breed unnecessary speculation and undermine stability.
