Fed Decision Set to Shape US Dollar, Gold, and Oil Prices
The Federal Reserve's (Fed) upcoming decision is expected to have a significant impact on various asset classes, including the US dollar, gold, and oil.
According to analysts at Citadel Securities, there is a possibility that the Fed may raise interest rates, with a probability of above 80% estimated for at least a 25 basis point hike in September. This hawkish repricing is supporting the dollar's gains, although easing tensions in the Middle East are capping its growth by containing oil-driven inflation risks.
The ADP employment report, trade balance, Case-Shiller home price index, and Consumer Confidence and Richmond Manufacturing indices will be closely watched today, as they may provide additional insights into the Fed's decision-making process.
In contrast to the dollar, the euro is consolidating near its monthly low, with traders hesitant to open new positions ahead of the Fed meeting. The single currency received some support from Germany's July Ifo Business Climate Index, which beat forecasts and previous readings, indicating improving sentiment in the eurozone's largest economy.
The British pound (GBP) appears more confident, holding onto positive territory despite facing pressure from a stabilizing dollar. Analysts expect the Bank of England to keep interest rates unchanged at 3.75% on Thursday, July 30, as annual consumer price growth slowed to a 15-month low of 2.6% in June.
