The Federal Reserve's reliance on forward guidance has come to an end, according to Fed Chair Kevin Warsh. In his first major public appearance at the ECB's annual forum in Portugal, Warsh stated that he will not provide any guidance on how the Fed may adjust monetary policy. This marks a significant shift from the past 25 years, where forward guidance was a key tool used by the Fed.

The sentiment was echoed by other central bank leaders, including ECB President Christine Lagarde and Bank of England Governor Andrew Bailey, who expressed reservations about continuing with forward guidance. Warsh emphasized his commitment to price stability in the US, stating 'We're going to deliver price stability in the US.'

Warsh also touched on the topic of productivity, noting that AI-driven gains over the past four quarters give him reason for optimism. However, he stopped short of promising any specific actions and instead left the door open for potential rate cuts if this trend continues.
