Fed Divided on AI's Impact on Inflation and Supply Chain Dynamics

The Federal Reserve is split on how artificial intelligence will impact inflation and supply chain dynamics. The debate centers around whether AI's growing demand for goods and services, fueled by massive infrastructure investments from hyperscalers like Alphabet and Microsoft, will lead to persistent price increases or ultimately drive down production costs through productivity gains.

According to the FOMC minutes from June, most participants agree that the current surge in AI-related demand is pushing prices higher, particularly in technology and energy sectors. This has led some to advocate for tighter monetary policy to curb inflationary pressures.

However, others, including Chairman Kevin Warsh, argue that AI will ultimately be disinflationary due to its potential to increase aggregate supply through productivity growth.
