Fed Faced with Inflation Pressure as War and AI Drive Up Costs

The Federal Reserve is set to meet on Tuesday and Wednesday, with expectations that its key interest rate will remain unchanged. However, Chair Kevin Warsh faces increasing pressure to hike rates soon, a move that could provoke ire from President Donald Trump.

The war in Iran has reignited, pushing oil and gas prices higher, which will worsen inflation in the coming months. Soaring investment in artificial intelligence is also raising costs for laptops, smartphones, and electricity.

According to Lorie Logan, president of the Federal Reserve Bank of Dallas, 'Unfortunately, inflation does not appear to be headed sustainably back all the way to 2%.' She added that 'modestly higher interest rates would better balance the outlook.'
