Fed Faces High Stakes Rate Decision Amid Rising Inflation Fears

The US Federal Reserve is set to make a key decision this week on whether to raise interest rates to combat high inflation. The world's largest economy has been dealing with years of higher-than-target inflation, and prices have surged due to various factors including US President Donald Trump's tariffs policies and the ongoing AI boom.

The Fed has held rates steady since January, but several policymakers, including Kevin Warsh, have hinted that if inflation does not slow down, a rate hike is necessary. Recent data showed consumer inflation remaining at 3.4 percent in August, still above the Fed's target of two percent.

Market expectations of a 25-basis-point rate hike on Wednesday surged to over 85 percent after the data release, according to CME's FedWatch tool. Warsh's credibility is on the line as he faces his first real test since taking office: will he raise rates to combat inflation or hold steady in line with what the White House prefers?
