The Federal Reserve is facing increasing pressure to address high inflation in the US. According to Adam Posen, president of the Peterson Institute for International Economics, things could get 'messy' for the Fed if they don't act quickly enough. Speaking about the challenges ahead, Posen said that despite Kevin Warsh's hawkish speech at this year's Kansas City Fed Symposium, the central bank still needs to make a decision on rate hikes. If trends in the data don't ease, Federal Reserve Governor Michael Barr is prepared to support an interest rate hike.

Warsh's speech was seen as a good one by some, but Posen remains cautious about the impact of forward guidance and monetary policy principles. He believes that the new chair needs to leave their mark on the Fed in terms of addressing inflation.
