Fed Forecasters Unanimous on Rate Decision, but Complexity Lurks
The Federal Reserve's interest-rate decision on Wednesday is expected to be a straightforward one, with nearly all forecasters in the Bloomberg survey predicting that policymakers will stand pat. However, this near-unanimity masks what many consider one of the most difficult calls in years.
Gennadiy Goldberg, Head of US Rates Strategy at TD Securities, notes that the 100-plus forecasters surveyed are almost entirely united in their prediction that the Fed will not make any changes to interest rates. This is despite some uncertainty surrounding the economy and inflation.
The difficulty lies in reading between the lines and understanding what policymakers may be hinting at through their words and actions, according to Goldberg. He emphasizes that it's not just about making a prediction, but also about interpreting the underlying dynamics and trends that will shape future decisions.
