Fed Hike Looms: Kalshi Markets Price in 79% Probability of 25-Basis-Point Rate Increase
The Federal Reserve's upcoming meeting on September 16 has sparked interest among traders and investors. According to Kalshi, the market-implied probability of a 25-basis-point hike is at 79%, with only 19% pricing in no change and less than 1% expecting a 50-basis-point move or cut.
The recent Consumer Price Index (CPI) data shows that inflation has re-accelerated, with the US Bureau of Labor Statistics reporting a +0.4% month-over-month increase in August and +3.4% over the trailing 12 months. This has given the Fed cover to move.
The actual hike is largely priced in, meaning Bitcoin and other risk assets may not react significantly to such anticipated outcomes. Instead, traders focus on the Fed's guidance, as a hawkish stance could tighten financial conditions and reduce risk appetite.
