Fed Holds $1.62 Trillion in Long-Term US Treasury Bonds Amid Market Pressure

The Federal Reserve holds $1.622 trillion in U.S. Treasury bonds with maturities exceeding 10 years, according to recent data.

This figure represents a substantial portion of the Fed's total holdings of U.S. Treasury bonds, which stood at $4.53873 trillion as of August 19, 2026.

The large-scale asset purchases and subsequent end of asset reduction following the pandemic have led to this concentration of long-term bonds in the Fed's portfolio.

In response to market pressure, the U.S. Treasury has announced an increase in liquidity support buyback size for nominal Treasury bonds maturing in 10-20 years and 20-30 years.
