Fed Holds Interest Rates Steady Despite Trump's Call for Cuts

The Federal Reserve kept interest rates unchanged for a fifth consecutive time after its latest meeting on Wednesday. This decision was made despite pressure from President Trump, who believes that interest rates should be lowered.

Fed Chair Kevin Warsh explained that the central bank remains focused on two key priorities: maintaining a strong job market and achieving price stability in the face of stubborn inflation.

Warsh noted that the ongoing conflict with Iran has led to fluctuations in energy prices, making it more challenging for the Fed to control inflation. He also mentioned that June's inflation numbers were generally positive, but they reflect conditions before the war resumed.

While some investors expect the Fed's next move to be an interest rate cut, others believe that inflation remains elevated and that rates may need to rise instead. The next rate decision is expected following the Fed's September meeting.
