Fed Holds Rates Steady Amid Inflation Concerns

The US Federal Reserve has maintained its benchmark interest rate at 3.5% to 3.75%, despite three policymakers voting in favor of a quarter-point increase.

The decision was announced after a 9-3 vote, with Beth Hammack, Neel Kashkari, and Lorie Logan opposing the unchanged target range.

Economic activity remains strong, with productivity growth and capital investment on the rise, but inflation has been above the Fed's 2% target due to supply shocks in sectors such as energy.

The Consumer Price Index (CPI) fell 0.4% in June from the previous month, marking its first monthly decline in six years and the steepest since April 2020.
