The US Federal Reserve has held interest rates steady for the fifth consecutive meeting. The decision was made despite concerns about inflation and the broader economic trajectory. Policymakers opted to keep rates unchanged at 3.50%-3.75% while awaiting greater clarity on these matters.

According to data from CME, traders on Wall Street saw a 33% chance of a rate hike to combat inflation, but most expected policymakers to hold off and not risk disrupting financial markets. However, 76% foresee a rate hike in September, a significant increase from the previous month's forecast.

Three Fed officials dissented from the majority decision, calling for a 25-basis-point rate hike. Voting against the monetary policy action were Beth M. Hammack, Neel Kashkari, and Lorie K. Logan.
