Fed Holds Rates Steady Amid Ongoing Inflation Concerns

The Federal Reserve held its interest-rate target steady at a range of 3.50% to 3.75%, in line with expectations, after its second meeting under new Chairman Kevin Warsh.

Three Fed board members dissented from the decision, preferring a quarter-percentage-point rate hike, but the majority voted to keep rates unchanged for the fifth consecutive time.

The move was influenced by higher inflation driven by energy costs stemming from the Iran conflict and possible tariff impacts. The central bank's policy statement noted that economic activity is expanding at a solid pace despite elevated uncertainty caused by the Middle East conflict.

However, inflation remains above the Fed's 2% goal, with the consumer price index running at 3.5% for the 12 months ending in June. Core inflation held steady at 2.6%, its lowest level in over two years.
