Fed Holds Rates Steady Amid White House Pressure for Cuts

The Federal Reserve has decided to hold interest rates steady at a range of 3.5% to 3.75%, despite pressure from the White House to cut rates. This decision was not unanimous, with three Fed officials dissenting and favoring a quarter-point rate hike.

According to Federal Reserve Chairman Kevin Warsh, the economy is showing 'impressive resilience' and 'solid growth', but inflation remains elevated at 2% above the target. The committee remains committed to delivering price stability, as stated by Warsh.

The decision has sparked speculation that the central bank may raise rates later in the year, given the dissenting opinions from Fed officials. President Donald Trump praised Warsh while criticizing the Fed board for not cutting rates, stating 'he's got a board, and it's a political board, and they want to keep rates up.'

The ongoing war in Iran has added volatility to prices, with conditions cooling in June due to a peace deal between the U.S. and Iran, but fighting re-ignited and has since paused again.
