Fed Holds Rates Steady Despite Growing Inflation Concerns
The US Federal Reserve maintained its benchmark federal funds rate at 3.5% to 3.75%, as decided by a 9-3 vote during its latest policy meeting.
Cleveland Fed President Beth Hammack, Minneapolis Fed President Neel Kashkari, and Dallas Fed President Lorie Logan dissented in favor of a quarter-point increase, marking the second consecutive meeting where they broke ranks with the committee majority.
Fed Chair Kevin Warsh emphasized that the central bank remains committed to returning inflation to its 2% target, but would avoid signaling future policy moves. He described the decision as 'a rigorous review of the economic situation,' rather than a pause or relaxation of monetary policy.
The Fed's post-meeting statement maintained that inflation 'remains elevated relative to the Committee's 2% goal' and highlighted ongoing economic growth and resilient labor market conditions.
