Fed Holds Steady on Interest Rates Amid Inflation Fears
The Federal Reserve held its benchmark interest rate steady at a range between 3.5 and 3.75%, despite high inflation concerns.
The central bank's rate-setting committee voted 9 to 3 to keep rates unchanged, with three regional Fed bank presidents dissenting from the decision.
Policymakers acknowledged that inflation remains elevated at 4.2% in May, its highest level in over three years, partly due to supply shocks and rising energy prices.
However, Fed Chairman Kevin Warsh emphasized that his team is committed to restoring price stability after five years of uncomfortably high inflation.
