Fed Holds Steady on Rates as Inflation Woes Linger

The Federal Reserve is poised to maintain interest rates at their current level in its upcoming meeting on Wednesday, despite concerns over stubborn inflation and renewed energy market volatility.

Market expectations indicate that traders believe rates will remain unchanged this week, but the probability of a September increase has climbed significantly compared with just a month ago, according to data from the CME FedWatch Tool.

Fed Chair Kevin Warsh has signaled that the central bank has 'no tolerance' for elevated inflation, but stopped short of indicating when officials might act. This week's meeting marks his second policy decision since taking office.

Investors are also waiting for key economic reports, including the Commerce Department's estimate of second-quarter U.S. gross domestic product and the June Personal Consumption Expenditures (PCE) price index, which is closely watched by the Fed.
