Fed Keeps Interest Rate Unchanged Amid Inflation Concerns
The Federal Reserve left its key interest rate unchanged at around 3.6% despite persistently high inflation and rising energy prices caused by the Iran war.
The Fed's rate-setting committee reached a 9-3 decision, with Beth Hammack, Neel Kashkari, and Lorie Logan dissenting in favor of a quarter-point interest rate hike to combat high prices.
Fed Chair Kevin Warsh praised the dissents as 'a good family fight', stating that he had no tolerance for elevated inflation, which has been above the 2% target since early 2021.
The Iran war has generated uncertainty over the economic outlook and driven energy prices higher, intensifying inflationary pressure. Other factors adding to inflation include President Donald Trump's tariffs on foreign goods and a surge in investment in data centers.
