Fed Keeps Interest Rate Unchanged Amid Persistent Inflation Pressures
The Federal Reserve has decided to keep its key interest rate unchanged at around 3.6% despite persistently high inflation.
This decision comes after two days of deliberations by the Fed's rate-setting committee, which marks the fifth straight meeting where the benchmark rate remained unchanged.
Some economists and analysts had predicted a quarter-point rate hike, but the Fed chose to hold off, leaving the average credit card rate near 20% and mortgage rates at their highest since last August.
The inflation battle remains ongoing, with prices stuck above the central bank's 2% target for over five years. The recent Iran war has added uncertainty to the economic outlook, driving energy prices higher and intensifying inflationary pressure.
Fed Chair Kevin Warsh emphasized the Fed's commitment to combating inflation but acknowledged that there is no 'magic wand' to solve the issue quickly.
