Fed Keeps Interest Rates Steady Amid Elevated Inflation Pressures

The U.S. Federal Reserve has held interest rates steady for the fifth time in a row, keeping the target range at 3.5 to 3.75 percent.

This decision was widely expected by the market and comes as inflationary pressures continue to be elevated, with the year-on-year growth rate of the U.S. headline consumer price index dropping to 3.5 percent in June from 4.2 percent in May.

Despite this drop, the Fed still has a way to go to meet its 2 percent inflation target, and Chair Kevin Warsh emphasized that the committee has 'no tolerance for persistently elevated inflation.'

The decision was not unanimous, with three policymakers from Dallas, Cleveland, and Minneapolis dissenting in favor of a 25-basis-point interest rate hike.
