Fed Keeps Interest Rates Steady Amid Iran Tensions
Investors were closely watching this week's Federal Open Market Committee meeting, hoping for some clarity on monetary policy. However, Federal Reserve Chairman Kevin Warsh surprised many by not providing forward guidance for the first time in two months.
The resumption of hostilities with Iran has added to market uncertainty, leading some investors to speculate that the Fed might raise interest rates instead of announcing another pause. Despite these concerns, the FOMC voted 9-3 to maintain the Federal Funds rate at 3.5%, 3.75%, its fifth consecutive pause.
Meanwhile, tensions with Iran continue to escalate. President Donald Trump recently announced that he had agreed to cancel a military strike on Iran in exchange for a deal to open the Strait of Hormuz and end Iran's nuclear threat. However, Iranian officials have since denied any agreement to reopen the strait, stating that it will remain closed until US 'hostile actions' cease.
