Fed Meeting Outcome: US Interest Rates Expected to Remain Unchanged
The US Federal Reserve is set to announce its interest rate decision on Wednesday, July 29, after a two-day monetary policy meeting that concluded on Tuesday. The rate-setting Federal Open Market Committee (FOMC) assesses key economic data, including inflation, growth, and labor market conditions, before making its decision.
The FOMC is widely expected to keep interest rates unchanged at 3.5%-3.75% target range, a move that would extend the pause in rate hikes after implementing series of cuts in 2024 and 2025.
Nachiketa Sawrikar, Fund Manager at Artha Bharat Global Multiplier Fund, expects the Fed to leave interest rates unchanged while maintaining its wait-and-see approach. He added that Chairman Kevin Warsh will deliver a strong message reaffirming the Fed's commitment to bringing inflation back toward its target, while emphasizing future policy decisions will remain data dependent.
Seema Srivastava, Senior Research Analyst at SMC Global Securities, said markets have raised the odds of an unexpected 25-basis-point rate hike, making this one of the most closely watched Fed meetings in recent years. She added that investors will pay closer attention to the policy statement and Chair Kevin Warsh's press conference than the rate decision itself.
